About Us

We are new and exciting and ready to roll. It has been a long winding road but it leads us here. We share your enthusiasm for beer! We revel in the idea and culture of local products. Sustainability and efficiency in all of our natural resources is our mantra. It is a time for innovation and renewing our goal of minimum harm to our environment.

That doesn’t mean we don’t like to have fun. Music, art, and other entertainment is a natural. Straight from the tanks and straight from the amps we’re here for a good time.

We are a small malthouse and farm brewery (brewing is down the line because malt is our mission first) that will sell malted grains.  A key component of the ZBH experience will be great malted products that can be used for beer, spirits and baking.  You can take the raw ingredients for the beer to create interesting flavors. Consumers will know that they are getting the freshest products that are locally grown fitting into our conscious effort to remain local. Each product has a story and an origin and you will know where that is.

To set the malthouse is on the right track, the area between normal and eclectic, the production of special malted grains will be a key component. When we make beers (and that is down the line a bit) it will be made with sage, lemon balm, elderberry, yarrow, ginger and honey will add a special twist to the beer selection. All of the special beers will be produced with the best ingredients available and taste. These beers, most forgotten by all but a few, add an interesting component to the beer menu. Most beers use hops, a green leafy flower, to offset the sweetness of the malt. In these ancient beers they used what was available to them.

It is about local and we will promote the locally grown items that represent the area of production and the region. There are so many local items of high quality, such as Long Island potatoes, wine and honey as well as Berkshire Mountain and Hudson Valley milk, meat and fruit that we need to use. It helps the whole community grow and it will help conserve energy and resources. There are more and more value added products being produced in our region.  Herbal soaps, fresh fruit jelly, and pies (seasonal) are just three ideas. We want to introduce the consumer to the farmer by bringing the farmer to them. This allows you to buy the products in the store and allow the farmer to be a featured guest in the, “know your farmer campaign.”

Yes, we are new but we are excited to get started! Look for more updates on the blog. We want you and your thoughts and ideas. Come, follow along.
